We are immensely proud to announce Dr Angus Adkins, Director & Registered Specialist in Equine Surgery was honoured at Bain Fallon 2022 with the EVA Award for Excellence in the Equine Veterinary Field. This prestigious Award is an acknowledgement of Angus’s lifetime dedication to the veterinary profession.
Angus gained Membership of the ANZCVS in Equine Surgery in 1995 & Fellowship in 2002. He joined Scone Equine Hospital in 1997 as the first dedicated equine surgeon, and now proudly boasts 7 equine surgeons and 6 specialists. With 30 years veterinary experience, Angus has performed over 20,000 surgical procedures and developed numerous new techniques to reduce the morbidity and mortality of his patients. His main surgical interests include fracture repair, arthroscopy, laparoscopy and all orthopaedic procedures. Angus is now based at Avenel Equine Hospital overseeing the development of a new surgical facility.
He has co-authored articles in peer reviewed veterinary journals, presented at Conferences globally, a credential assessor for Fellowship candidates of the College for 10 years, Memberships and Fellowships examiner in Equine Surgery, Chairman of the Equine Chapter, a member of the EVA education subcommittee and past treasurer of the EVA.
Angus is a recipient of the College Prize and Sneddon Prize of the NSW branch of the AVA.
In Angus’s acceptance speech he made reference to his past 24 interns who he has had the privilege to mentor. He thanked Scone Equine Group for their support throughout his career and acknowledged his family ‘thank you to my parents for encouraging me to pursue my dreams, and my wife Kate and 2 boys for allowing me to pursue my career.’ Angus concluded with sound advice to all ‘Work hard, play hard, be fair, ethical and life will give you rewards.’
