
Tom graduated from Charles Sturt University in 2016. He then completed an 18-month internship with Scone Equine Hospital and an 18-month internship with the Hong Kong Jockey Club. In 2019 he moved to the United States, where he completed a large animal rotating internship with the University of Georgia. In 2020 he moved to Colorado to undertake his specialist training in equine surgery and lameness. During this time, he performed research evaluating a novel type of screw for the repair of proximal sesamoid bone fractures. He has published papers evaluating the prognosis of septic arthritis in foals, the use of extracellular vesicles for the treatment of osteoarthritis, and the first documented removal of a pheochromocytoma in a mare.
In 2023 he decided to relocate back to Australia and join the team at Avenel Equine Hospital.
In April 2024, Tom achieved Diplomate status with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.
He has keen interests in all aspects of soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries.
