Avenel Equine Hospital offers a full reproductive surgery service provided by specialists in the field of equine surgery and supported by advanced practitioners in the field of equine reproduction.
Reproductive surgery may be required for management of foaling or covering injuries, to correction of anatomical defects, procedures to optimise fertility and foal delivery by caesarean section.
Developments in sedation protocols and local anaesthetic techniques mean most reproductive surgeries can be performed safely and effectively in the standing horse.
This includes;
- Perineal and vulvar reconstructions
- Cervical repairs
- Urethral extension surgery
- Laparoscopic ovariectomy
- Laparoscopic correction of oviductal blockage
- Laparoscopic imbrication of the uterus (uteropexy)
Avenel Equine Hospital also offers emergency and elective caesarean sections under general anaesthesia for safe delivery of foals from mares with a history of high risk foaling or on an emergency basis in the event of dystocia.
If you wish to discuss a case or know more about these procedures please contact Dr Katie Wilcox or Dr Victoria Charlesworth.
